Our History
Faith Bible Church of Spearfish started in 2011 as a church plant of Grace Advance, a ministry of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California. In April of 2011, Rich Gregory and Bob White, two elders of Grace Community Church, paid a visit to our fledgling group in Spearfish. We were much encouraged by the visit and committed to proceed with a candidate enrolled in the Grace Advance program. In June, Gregg and Kari Dennison came to Spearfish to candidate, accompanied by Grace Community Church elder Dave Amandus. By the end of the weekend, we were convinced the Dennison's were the perfect fit for our group.
Throughout the spring and summer, we met in homes worshipping, sharing meals, and watching the Sunday sermon streamed from Grace Community Church. The Dennison's arrived in Spearfish at the end of August 2011. Within two weeks, our church had outgrown the home we were meeting in, so we moved to a vacant building belonging to one of our members.
In September 2011, we began having leadership meetings via Skype with our two new elders, Dave Amandus and Tom Leman, both also Grace Community Church elders. The love and commitment of these two men shown to our group cannot be overstated. In October, Dave and his lovely wife, at their own expense, delivered some surplus property from a church in Northern California which has been most beneficial to our church. More importantly, the wisdom and guidance that Dave and Tom have so freely given to our local church leadership in our weekly meetings has been indispensable.
In December 2011, we began holding our Sunday worship service in the auditorium of Creekside Elementary school in north Spearfish. Later, in June 2014, we began meeting at the Spearfish Adventist building followed by a season meeting in the evenings at Mountain View Baptist Church. After much prayer and searching, the Lord provided FBC our own church facility in June 2017 and this is where we meet today for our morning worship service beginning at 10:15 am.
We are eternally grateful how God has used the generosity of John MacArthur, Grace Advance, and Grace Community Church in helping us to launch Faith Bible Church. We continue to be fully dependent on God for His provision - past, present and future.
